2x - 1 = 3/4x + 9, we move the +9 to the other side and get;

2x - 10 = 3/4x

Now we can just multiply both sides by 4 and we get:

8x - 40 = 3x

Now that there are no more fractions, we can just take away 8x from both sides to get;

-40 = -5x, or if we multiply the whole equation by -1 we get;

40 = 5x

Now its a simple matter of dividing both sides by five and we get;

x = 8

let's start with attempting to isolate the variable. remember what you do to one side you have to do to the other. -1

2x=3/4x+8

-3/4x from both sides

5/4x = 8

multiply both sides by 4

5x =32

divide both sides by 5

x=6.4 or 6 2/5. sorry if this is wrong
