I think. like if you think about for example hair, let's say someone's mom is blonde and the rest of her family is also blonde and their dad is brunette but their dad's mom had red hair there would still be a chance for the potential child to have red, blonde, or brown hair. I'm not positive this is correct but I hope it helps.
