Answer:

An incoming MBA student do better in Mathematics exam.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that an incoming MBA student took placement exams in economics and mathematics. In economics, she scored 81 and in math 88.

The overall results on the economics exam had a mean of 74 and a standard deviation of 7, while the mean math score was 69, with a standard deviation of 10.

And we have to find that  in which exam did she do better.

<em>Firstly, Let X = results on the economics exam</em>

<em>So, X ~ N(</em>\mu=74,\sigma^{2} = 7^{2}<em>)</em>

<em>Also, let Y = results on the mathematics exam</em>

<em>So, Y ~ N(</em>\mu=69,\sigma^{2} = 10^{2}<em>)</em>

For finding in which exam did she do better, we will find the z score for both the exams of MBA student because the higher the z score, the better is the student performance in that exam.

The z-score probability distribution is given by;

              Z = \frac{X-\mu}{\sigma} ~ N(0,1)

where, \mu = mean score for respective exams

            \sigma = standard deviation

  • <u>The z-score of Economics exam is calculated as</u><u>;</u>

Since we are given that the student score 81 in economics exam,

So,  z-score = \frac{81-74}{7} = 1  {where \mu=74 and \sigma =7 }

  • <u>The z-score of Mathematics exam is calculated as;</u>

Since we are given that the student score 88 in mathematics exam,

So,  z-score = \frac{88-69}{10} = 1.9    {where \mu=69 and \sigma =10 }

AS we can clearly see that the z score of Mathematics exam is higher than that of Economics exam, so the student do better in Mathematics exam.

The Han dynasty lasted from 206 B.C. to 9 A.D. How many years did the dynasty last?
cricket20 [7]

Answer:

The Han dynasty last was, 215 years

Step-by-step explanation:

Given statement: The Han dynasty lasted from 206 B.C. to 9 A.D.

To find how many years did the dynasty last.

B.C. represents Before Christ

A.D. represents After Death

To find the difference between two dates,

  • When the endings are the same you subtract
  • When they are different you add

You can see that the endings in the given 206 B.C. and 9 A.D. are B.C. and A.D. are different.

Just add these 206 and 9 we get;

206 + 9 = 215 years

Therefore, 215 years did the Han dynasty last.

A national survey of 2000 adult citizens of a nation found that 24% dreaded Valentine's Day. The margin of error for the surve
Goryan [66]

Answer:

The correct option is (A).

Step-by-step explanation:

The (1 - <em>α</em>)% confidence interval for the population proportion is:

CI=\hat p \pm MOE

The information provided is:

\hat p = 0.24

MOE = 0.089

The 85% confidence interval for the population proportion of adults who dreaded Valentine's Day is:

CI=\hat p \pm MOE

     =0.24\pm 0.089\\=(0.151, 0.329)

So, the 85% confidence interval for the population proportion of adults who dreaded Valentine's Day is (0.151, 0.329).

The (1 - <em>α</em>)% confidence interval for population parameter implies that there is a (1 - <em>α</em>) probability that the true value of the parameter is included in the interval.

Or, the (1 - <em>α</em>)% confidence interval for the parameter implies that there is (1 - <em>α</em>)% confidence or certainty that the true parameter value is contained in the interval.

So, the 85%  confidence interval for the population proportion, (0.151, 0.329), implies that there is 85% confidence that the proportion of the adult citizens of the nation that dreaded Valentine's Day is between 0.151 and 0.329.

Or there is 0.85 probability that the true proportion of the adult citizens of the nation that dreaded Valentine's Day is between 0.151 and 0.329.

Thus, the correct option is (A).
