Margaret Lucas Cavendish (1623 - 1673), was a philosopher, poet, scientist, fiction writer and drama writer of the seventeenth century. Her work is an early and adaptable version of naturalism that is still in philosophy and science today. It has greatly helped to popularize the idea of a scientific revolution. As the first known female philosopher in England, she strongly advocated the education of women and their inclusion in science, for which she had problems and was criticized. The contemporaries resented her, because she as a woman published her works and writings and was not signed by any other name.
The American Revolution established the United States as a nation built on the idea of citizens' rights and freedoms. It was revolutionary in its time, because governments than typically had been in the interests of those at the top of society (kings and aristocrats). But the American Revolution put power in the hands of the people, and that revolutionary idea still holds true. We still think of the United States as having the ability to pursue revolutionary change, including changing who is in control in government, based on what is good for the people. Thomas Jefferson expressed this ideal in the <em>Declaration of Independence </em>(1776):

Explanation:
The Missouri Compromise divided Northern and Southern states on the slaves issue. The compromised passed as law in 1820, <u>it forbade slavery in Louisiana and it considered Missouri as a slave state. Anything north the 36/30 parallel was considered slave free.</u>
However, since the state of Missouri was considered a slave state, the South had one state more than the North and it was considered that the slave states had more power, because a slave counted as 3/5 of a person.
Thomas Jefferson predicted that dividing the country between slave and slave free states would lead the country to civil war.
