There are <em>infinitely many </em>numbers between 0.4 and 0.5, but I'd imagine what you're asking is "what number is <em>halfway between</em> 0.4 and 0.5?"

Remember that <em>trailing zeroes</em> (the zeroes after the end of a decimal fraction) don't alter the number itself, so we can also write 0.4 and 0.5 as 0.40 and 0.50, 40 hundredths and 50 hundredths. Since 45 is halfway between 40 and 50, it makes sense that 45 <em>hundredths - </em>0.45 in decimal form -<em> </em>is halfway between 40 and 50 <em>hundredths</em>.

3 2 ? start fraction, 2, divided by, 3, end fraction of the doughnuts in a box have frosting. \dfrac12 2 1 ? start fraction, 1,
timurjin [86]

Answer:

\frac{1}{3} of the doughnuts in the box have frosting and sprinkles.

Step-by-step explanation:

If there are x doughnuts in the box. Then, \frac{2}{3} \times x = \frac{2x}{3}  of the doughnuts in the box have frosting. Therefore, \frac{1}{2} \times \frac{2x}{3} = \frac{1}{3}x of the doughnuts with frosting have sprinkles. This implies that \frac{1}{3} of the doughnuts in the box have frosting and sprinkles.
