Answer: The correct answer for the filling the blank is Gene.

Gene is a segment of DNA present in the genome of an organism. It carries information for the specific characteristics of the organism. It is also known as heredity unit as the information is carried from one generation to the next.

Two processes take place for gene expression. These are Transcription and Translation.

In transcription, DNA of the gene is converted to mRNA ( messenger RNA). A gene has a transcription start site from where transcription begins and a transcription stop site, which terminates transcription. mRNA contains start codon and stop codon for the initiation and termination of translation.

The translation of mRNA gives specific protein. Since the sequence of genes are very specific, therefore, one type of protein is coded by one gene.

During periods of rapid environmental change, what may happen to a species that was well-suited to the former environment?
Hunter-Best [27]

Answer:

The environment usually refers to all the biotic and the abiotic components that are surrounding us. This environment undergoes changes depending upon various factors which can be natural and/or due to the anthropogenic activities.

When there occur rapid environmental changes, then it directly affects the lives of species, in different ways, such as-

  • Those species that are comparatively weaker in adapting according to the environmental changes that occur, will not be able to cope up with the new environment. They may become extinct.
  • Some variety of species will be able to adapt to the new environment because of their easily adapting capabilities.
  • The traits that will be developed within the species in the new environment will be more successful in terms of reproduction.
  • The previously existed traits may have a harmful impact in the newly formed environment.

A DNA sequence that is responsible for the initiation of transcription in a cell-type specific manner is:_____.
EleoNora [17]

Answer:

Promoter.

Explanation:

It is promoter because Promoter is a DNA sequence where's the gene transcription begins. It is the

DNA sequence which RNA polymerase binds or join to

so as to begin transcriptionn of a gene . It is a region where the regulatory elements i.e protein will bind to and the Promoter sequences are found directly upstream or at the end of 5' of the transcription initiation site. This can also encode RNA such as mRNA, trans and so on.

Bacteria with the ability to break down certain types of plastic are placed with a colony of E. coli bacteria that lack this abi
lana66690 [7]

The answer is; C

Plasmids are conferred through horizontal gene transfer in bacteria.  The ‘male’ bacteria develops a structure called pili that then attaches to the ‘female’ bacteria. It then transfers it’s replicated plasmid to the ‘female’ bacteria in a process called conjugation. This bacteria will hence have desirable traits that are coded for by the transferred genetic material ,such as antibiotic resistance, after a process called recombination.
