Answer: D. The author wants to inform people about how Geronimo’s name has been used for different purposes.

Explanation: The author states different ways the name "Geronimo" was associated with acts of bravery. One purpose was innocent; "Schoolchildren, for decades after Geronimo’s death, would similarly yell his name before undertaking a real or imagined feat of bravery, such as leaping from a swing into a river."

Another purpose was more controversial. The author addressed how the Department of Defense named an operation against terrorists after him. He was an important Indian leader, and the use of his name was considered disrespectful.
