Suppose that without specialization, Iran produces 4 barrels of oil and 6 bottles of olive oil, and Iraq produces 4 barrels of o

il and 4 bottles of olive oil (in millions per day). Are the countries better off or worse off with specialization and trade? Suppose that the terms of trade with specialization are 4 barrels of oil for 4.3 bottles of olive oil, and that 4 barrels of oil are indeed traded for 4.3 bottles of olive oil. With specialization and trade, how many additional barrels of olive oil can Iran consume?

Answer:

With specialization Iran will be able to consume 1.7 bottles of olive oil.

Explanation:

Iran produces 4 barrels of oil and 6 bottles of olive oil.

Iraq produces 4 barrels of oil and 4 bottles of olive oil.

The opportunity cost of producing a barrel of oil for Iran

= \frac{6}{4}

= 1.5

The opportunity cost of producing a barrel of oil for Iraq

= \frac{4}{4}

= 1

Iraq has a lower opportunity cost for producing oil so we can say it has a comparative advantage in producing oil.

The opportunity cost of producing a barrel of olive oil for Iran

= \frac{4}{6}

= 0.66

The opportunity cost of producing a barrel of olive oil for Iraq

= \frac{4}{4}

= 1

Iran has a lower opportunity cost for producing olive oil so we can say it has a comparative advantage in producing it.

The terms of trade with specialization are 4 barrels of oil for 4.3 bottles of olive oil, and that 4 barrels of oil are indeed traded for 4.3 bottles of olive oil.

Without trade, Iran is consuming 4 barrels of oil and 6 bottles of olive oil.

With specialization, Iran will be able to consume

= 6 - 4.3

= 1.7 bottles of olive oil

Walker Telecommunications has a quick ratio of 2.00x, $35,550 in cash, $19,750 in accounts receivable, some inventory, total cur
laiz [17]

Answer:

c) 8.44x

Explanation:

Total current assets = cash + account receivable + inventory

⇔ $79,000 = $35,550 + $19,750 + Inventory

⇒ Inventory = $79,000 - $35,550 - $19,750 = $23,700

The inventory circles based on annual sales = Sales/ inventory = $200,000/ $23,700 = 8.44

Suppose that in the fictional country of Albireo the work-eligible population is 180 million, there are 110 million workers in t
maksim [4K]

Answer:

6.36 %

Explanation:

Unemployment means the state of being jobless but actively searching for work. Unemployed people are part of the labor force.

In the case of Albireo, the work-eligible population is 180 million.

There are 110 million workers in the labor force, and employment level is 103 million. It means that those in the labor force and are not employed are 110 million - 103 million.

The number of unemployed people = 7 million

The formula for calculating the rate of unemployment

= No. of unemployed people / No. in the labor force x 100

=7 million / 110 million x 100

=7/110 x 100

= 0.063 x 100

=6.36 %

The price of bread goes up. What happens to DEMAND for butter?
nikklg [1K]

Answer:

A. The demand curve shifts to the left

Explanation:

Bread and butter are compliment goods. They offer the consumer a high utility when consumed together. An increase in demand for bread will increase the demand for butter. Changes in the price of bread will affect the demand for butter.

An increase in the price of bread leads to a decrease in demand. Reduction in bread demand means that butter consumption will decline as there will be less bread to apply butter. A decrease in demand will prompt the demand curve to shift inwards.

A corporation uses the indirect method for preparing the statement of cash flows. A fixed asset has been sold for $23,649 repres
Alexus [3.1K]

Answer:

a. $(3,881)

Explanation:

Gain on sale of fixed assets is an income. To be included in the operating section of the cash flow statement, we need to deduct the gain. The disposal of the fixed assets will go to the investing section. As the gain of the sale of assets is already added to the net income in the income statement, it will be deducted to make the accounting procedure transparent. Therefore, option A is correct.
