Potwar Plateau is an area between west of Azad Kashmir and the south of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, specifically located in the north eastern part of Pakistan.

It is characterized by an open, undulating land with an extensive flat areas.

Potwar plateau currently has 4 districts of Jhelum, Chakwal, Rawalpindi and Attock, and is very rich in minerals like gypsum, limestone, coal, oil and rock salt. These natural resources helps provide raw materials to the cement, ceramics and chemical industries.

There is also a number of oil and gas fields are located in this region. For example, Atock Oil Refinery has been set up to refine oil from the oil fields of Potwar Plateau.

The life style of the people around also includes farming, which is often depends on rainfall, with major agricultural produce being, wheat, barley, maize and gram.

Other developed areas like Islamabad, Jhelum, Chakwal are characterized by high population density and are accessible by road, rail and air transport.
