As a result of the Patriot victory in the Revolutionary War, the land north of the Ohio River, west of Pennsylvania, and east of the Mississippi River became part of the United States. Americans called the area the Northwest Territory. Although the British ceded the area to the United States, Native Americans already lived there. In the late 1780s, violence broke out in the Ohio country as American settlers moved into areas promised to Native Americans by treaty. Often the settlers were illegal squatters, who simply claimed land without having any legal right to do so. The Treaties Arthur St. Clair, the governor of the Northwest Territory, tried to protect American settlers and establish a peaceful relationship with the Native Americans. He proposed a series treaties aimed at convincing Native Americans to give up their claims to much of the land. The Treaty of Fort McIntosh in 1785, for example, set a boundary line between the United States and the Wyandot and Delaware nations. Many Native Americans of the region rejected the treaty, in part because they felt the Native Americans who signed it did not have the authority to do so. The Treaty of Fort Harmar in 1789 restated the terms of the Treaty of Fort McIntosh. The Forts From 1778 to 1794, St. Clair established forts in the Northwest Territory, mostly in what is present-day Ohio. These forts served multiple purposes. They were meant to control and to protect the settlers, as well as to provide staging areas for military attacks against the Native Americans. Staging areas are places where soldiers and military equipment are gathered before being sent out on military

Look carefully at the vote in the five most populous states. what conclusions answers
Delvig [45]

On November 9, the news networks announced that Pennsylvania and Wisconsin (states in which Hillary Clinton led in the polls) gave the last 30 voters to define the winner to Donald Trump, who became the forty-fifth president of the United States. . Clinton accepted the defeat against Trump, who won the 2016 presidential election with 304 electoral votes against Clinton's 227.1 The states that gave him (against most predictions) Trump's victory were, mainly, the states industrialists of the Great Lakes region: Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. In addition to these, the Republican candidate also managed to prevail in the two major states in dispute, or "swing states", of recent decades: Ohio and Florida, and in other minor "swing" states such as Arizona, Georgia, Iowa and Carolina. North. Clinton, on the other hand, took over contested states such as Colorado, Nevada, Virginia and New Hampshire.

Therefore, the Republican candidate Trump won the elections, despite having obtained the support of 2.8 million voters less than his Democratic rival. As data scientist Azhar Hamdan points out, in the end the 2016 elections were not decided by that advantage of almost three million votes from Hillary Clinton, but rather the narrower advantage of just 78,000 votes that Trump achieved in three counties of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania

Survey Map of Oklahoma and Indian Territory showing distances, municipal towns, and post offices, published by George Cram, 1902 Most of the land that is now Oklahoma was acquired by the United States in 1803 as part of the Louisiana Purchase. In the 1830s, the U.S. used the land to relocate Indian tribes and the Indian Territory was formed from the land set aside by the Indian Intercourse Act of 1834. The Indian Territory originally extended beyond present-day Oklahoma, but the size was gradually reduced over the course of the 19th century. In 1889 Congress authorized the opening land seized from the Indian Territory for homestead settlement, and a year later Congress passed an act that officially created the Oklahoma Territory. RG 233, Records of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Explanation: First page of the Joint Statehood Convention, Oklahoma City, July 12, 1905 Although the Oklahoma and Indian Territories had sufficient population to be admitted as separate states, Congress insisted that the territories would only be granted statehood as a single, combined state. As a result, delegates representing the citizens of the Indian and Oklahoma Territories met in Oklahoma City for a joint statehood convention. They outlined their reasons for statehood—they had sufficient land area, population, resources and character—and drafted a petition to Congress which was presented on March 7, 1906 and ordered printed. RG 233, Records of the U.S. House of Representatives HR 12707, A Bill to enabling the people of the Indian and Oklahoma Territories to form a state constitution and State government, January 20, 1906 The Oklahoma statehood bill, as originally introduced to the House, also included the admission of New Mexico and Arizona as one state.
