B) Patients, while they were secretly being watched, were, however, given the liberty to wear what they wanted, but were punished if they even questioned being confined. C) Monsieur Maillard himself was considered mentally unstable as evidenced by his cruel punishments, confining his patients to the house or grounds and allowing them the freedom to wear other people’s ordinary clothing. I believe it's C. Monsieur Maillard himself was considered mentally unstable as evidenced by his cruel punishments, confining his patients to the house or grounds and allowing them the freedom to wear other people’s ordinary clothing.
We can see this through the usage of the word 'patient' in the excerpt which indicates there is something wrong about him and this part of this sentence : were permitted to roam about the house and grounds in the ordinary apparel of persons in right mind. . . which indicates that he's losing his mind.

Which statement about excerpts is true.
serious [3.7K]
Hello!

An excerpt is a section of a book, play, essay, etc. Because it comes directly from a piece of writing, it should always be enclosed in quotation marks.

An excerpt should always be cited as well, but it does not need to start on a new line.

I hope this helps answer your question! Have a great day!
