Alan lives along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. He decides to record the difference between the high and low tides along the sh

ore every day for three months. If Alan is comparing these observations with observations of the lunar cyle, which of the following is he most likely to find?
A.
The difference between high and low tide is the least during full moons and new moons.
B.
The difference between high and low tide is greatest during full moons and new moons.
C.
The difference between high and low tide is greatest during last quarter and is the least during first quarter.

Answer: Option B

Explanation:

The tides are affected by the gravitational pull. The time when there is a full moon, the tides are very high and when there is a new moon the tides are very low.

The difference in between the low and high tides can be clearly observed during these two phases. Rest of the time the difference in the tides are very minute that it cannot be observed.

So, for proper observation of high and low tides, time when the moon is full and the time when there is a new moon is best.

Which of the following consist of prokaryotic cells?
Ad libitum [116K]

The correct answer is D. Bacteria and archaea

Explanation:

In biology, cells can be mainly classified into prokaryotic and eukaryotic. The prokaryotic cells are cells with no nucleus or centrioles but they do have a cell wall, usually one chromosome and complex cilia and flagella. On the other hand, prokaryotic cells have a defined nucleus, multiple chromosomes, and centrioles and some have a cell wall. Due to the differences between these two type of cells they are part of different organisms, in the case of eukaryotic cells, these are part of the complex organism that includes animals, plants, and fungi while prokaryotic cells are those found in bacteria and archaea which are organisms with only one cell. Considering this, the ones that consist of prokaryotic cells are bacteria and archaea.

Following repolarization, the neuron may become slightly hyperpolarized before it re-establishes its resting membrane potential.
RoseWind [281]

Membrane potential

Explanation:

 • Membrane potential represents charge difference across the membrane, all biological cells are negative inside (cytoplasm) and positive outside (due to difference in ionic distribution)
 • In a typical neuron cell membrane potential of cytoplasm is negative at rest (when no stimulus is applied) hence called resting membrane potential
 • Resting membrane potential of excitable cells is established by Na+ and K+pump
 • Repolarization starts with the efflux of K+ by the opening of voltage gated K+ channels
 • Voltage gated K+ channels starts to open when voltage gated Na+ channels becomes inactive
 • Hyperpolarization occurs due to excessive efflux of K+ by voltage gated K+ channels
 • Additional efflux of K+ occurs due to slow inactivation of voltage gated K+ channels

Trade winds
kari74 [83]
This is called the Coriolis Effect. The Coriolis Effect, in combination with an area of high pressure, causes the prevailing winds—the trade winds—to move from east to west on both sides of the equator across this 60-degree "belt."
