The relationship between the French and the Iroquois were never very good. Sometimes fur trading was affected because of the constant discord between them, since the Native Americans would often sell beavers for the French.

Samuel de Champlain was the founder of Quebec and established a amicable relationship with the Native Americans from the Montagnais, Algoquin and Huron tribes, but the relationship with the Iroquois was still not good, and because of that, those tribes helped the French to attack an Iroquois camp. After the battle, for several years the Iroquois aimed to get revenge raiding the French settlements.
