This resulted in the development of organized crimes and gangs, ultimately increase the rate of violent crimes and homicides during this period. Along with this, hundreds of thousands of people were arrested or detained due to their activity with alcohol. This made it increasingly difficult and expensive for law enforcement agents to keep up with prohibition.
