The plot of a story is as follows-
Expostion~the setting of the scene and introduction of the characters
Rising Action~ (this is the answer) all the events that lead up to the climax
Climax~this is the peak of the book, one huge event (ex: someone dies, the characters win money, etc.)
Falling Action~ this includes the events that happen as a result of the climax event, it starts to wind down the story
Resolution~ this is the ending of the story (ex: a problem is solved, the guy gets the girl, etc.)

So in the plot sequence, it goes on like this > exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. <u>Rising action</u> comes immediately before the climax comes.
