The table shows the relationship between the amount of money (y) remaining in Maddy's money box and the number of months (x): Fu

nction 1 Number of Months (x) Amount Remaining (in dollars) (y) 1 100 2 80 3 60 4 40 The equation shows the relationship between the amount of money (y) remaining in Caitlin's money box and the number of months (x): Function 2: y = −18x + 120 Which statement explains which function shows a greater rate of change? Function 2 shows a greater rate of change, because Maddy spends $20 each month and Caitlin spends $18 each month. Function 2 shows a greater rate of change, because Maddy spends $100 each month and Caitlin spends $120 each month. Function 1 shows a greater rate of change, because Maddy spends $20 each month and Caitlin spends −$18 each month. Function 1 shows a greater rate of change, because Maddy spends $20 each month and Caitlin spends $18 each month.

Maddie :
(1,100),(2,80)
slope (rate of change) = (80 - 100) / (2 - 1) = -20/1 = -20

Caitlin :
y = -18x + 120......slope (rate of change) = -18

To determine which rate of change is greater, take the absolute value of the slopes.
 Maddy : | -20 | = 20
Caitlin : | -18 | = 18
the greater rate of change is the one with the larger absolute value....so that would be Maddy...function 1 shows a greater rate of change because Maddie spends 20 each month and Caitlin spends 18 each month

Determine the area enclosed by y=2x+3, the x-axis and the ordinates x=3 and x=4
jok3333 [9.3K]

Answer:

\displaystyle \int\limits^4_3 {2x + 3} \, dx = 10

General Formulas and Concepts:
<u>Calculus</u>

Integration

  • Integrals

Integration Rule [Reverse Power Rule]:                                                           \displaystyle \int {x^n} \, dx = \frac{x^{n + 1}}{n + 1} + C

Integration Rule [Fundamental Theorem of Calculus 1]:                                 \displaystyle \int\limits^b_a {f(x)} \, dx = F(b) - F(a)

Integration Property [Multiplied Constant]:                                                     \displaystyle \int {cf(x)} \, dx = c \int {f(x)} \, dx

Integration Property [Addition/Subtraction]:                                                   \displaystyle \int {[f(x) \pm g(x)]} \, dx = \int {f(x)} \, dx \pm \int {g(x)} \, dx

Area of a Region Formula:                                                                               \displaystyle A = \int\limits^b_a {[f(x) - g(x)]} \, dx

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Step 1: Define</u>

<em>Identify.</em>

y = 2x + 3

<em>x</em>-interval [3, 4]

<em>x</em>-axis

<em>See attachment for graph.</em>

<u>Step 2: Find Area</u>

  1. Substitute in variables [Area of a Region Formula]:                               \displaystyle A = \int\limits^4_3 {2x + 3} \, dx
  2. [Integral] Rewrite [Integration Property - Addition/Subtraction]:           \displaystyle A = \int\limits^4_3 {2x} \, dx + \int\limits^4_3 {3} \, dx
  3. [Integrals] Rewrite [Integration Property - Multiplied Constant]:           \displaystyle A = 2 \int\limits^4_3 {x} \, dx + 3 \int\limits^4_3 {} \, dx
  4. [Integrals] Integrate [Integration Rule - Reverse Power Rule]:               \displaystyle A = 2 \bigg( \frac{x^2}{2} \bigg) \bigg| \limits^4_3 + 3(x) \bigg| \limits^4_3
  5. [Integrals] Integrate [Integration Rule - FTC 1]:                                       \displaystyle A = 2 \bigg( \frac{7}{2} \bigg) + 3(1)
  6. Simplify:                                                                                                     \displaystyle A = 10

∴ the area bounded by the region y = 2x + 3, x-axis, and the coordinates x = 3 and x = 4 is equal to 10.

It cost you $12 to start up your
brilliants [131]

Step-by-step explanation:

let no. of hours be x.

45x - 12 ≥ 117

45x ≥ 129

x ≥ 2.8667 (5sf)

therefore, 3 hours (round up to next whole number).

A countertop is 16 feet long and 3 feet wide. what is the area of the countertop in square meters
Paladinen [302]

The area of the countertop is (16-ft x 3-ft) = 48 feet² .

1 foot = 0.3048 meter (rounded)

(1 foot)² = (0.3048 meter)² = 0.0929 meter²

48 feet² = (48 x 0.0929) =  4.459 meter² (rounded)
