As blood glucose returns to its baseline level, the levels of insulin and glucagon in the blood will stabilize. As the blood glucose levels begin to drop below the base line, the concentration of glucagon hormone increases. while as the blood sugar levels increases above the baseline, the level of insulin hormones increases. Insulin and glucagon work antagonistically to maintain the normal level of glucose in the blood.

Their levels stabilize, meaning that insulin and glucagon are constantly circulating throughout the body at low levels. Insulin decreases glucose blood levels, stimulating the uptake of glucose by cells. Glucose attaches to receptors on cells throughout the body, telling those cells to open up and allow it to enter. Glucagon has the opposite effect. When glucose levels decrease in the blood, it stimulates the conversion of glycogen to glucose.
