Modernism is a style of art, philosophy and culture that arose during the late 19th and early 20th century. Modernism usually rejected previous traditions that respected the principles of Enlightenment. Instead, Modernism believed that the world needed to be recreated. It focused on the idea of the "new" and of "progress." Larger urban centers were its setting. Modernism also employed a technological and scientific view that was unprecedented in previous eras.
