Hamlet has his moment and kills Polonius, believing it to be Claudius. This is his act of revenge, for all purposes, and now he

must tell his mother that he has killed his uncle. In response to his mother, he states: “I must be cruel only to be kind: Thus bad begins, and worse remains behind." (Act III, scene iv) He wanted revenge, so he put good behind him, acting “cruel to be kind” to his father’s memory. The second half of the line implies that there’s worse to come: “worse remains behind”. What does this act and line from the play show the audience in regard to Hamlet’s character development? Question 3 options: A : Hamlet finally made a decision and acted on it, which he had not been able to do up to this point. B: Hamlet was afraid of Polonius, so he killed him while hiding behind a curtain so he would not retaliate against him. C: Polonius was the main driving force behind Hamlet’s anger, so killing Polonius was a turning point in Hamlet’s character. D: Hamlet killing Polonius was accidental, and killing him was kindness due to the type of wound he endured.

A: Hamlet finally made a decision and acted on it, which he had not been able to do up to this point.

Polonius' assassination offers the illustration of Hamlet's character and it provides the cause of his death.

Although Polonius deserved to die, Hamlet had no right to kill him.

Read the poem below and answer the question that follows.
Viktor [21]

The theme of this poem is this:

 • Remain humble no matter how experienced you think you are at something.
 • Imagery helps the reader to visualize everything that transpired in the pitch. For instance, in these lines, "Ten thousand eyes were on him as he rubbed his hands with dirt;" and "He pounds with cruel violence his bat upon the plate," the reader can better feel and sense the tension in the air as Casey arrived to play.

What is the theme of a poem?

When asked to find the theme of a poem, we are required to determine the main lesson that should be taken from the reading of the poem.

In the poem above, we can see how overconfidence contributed to the mighty fall of Casey. His arrogance made him ignore the rules of the game that aided his tumultuous defeat.

So, the life lesson that is derived from this is that we must never become proud no matter our level of achievement in life.
