First is to get the given data that we might be able to use for computation.
H = 8 inches
Area = 96
B1 = B1
B2 = B1+6

Next is to know the area of a trapezoid
Area = H x (B1 + B2)/2
96 = 8 x (B1 + B1 + 6) / 2
96 = 8 x (2B1 + 6) /2
96 = 4 x (2B1 + 6)
14 = 2B1 + 6
2B1 = 8
B1 = 4
B2 = 10

Answer:

one base is 9 inches and other is 15 inches.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : The height of a trapezoid is 8 inches and its area is 96 in one base of the trapezoid is 6 inches longer than the other base.

We have to find the lengths of the bases.

We know  area of trapezoid =\frac{1}{2} \times \text{Sum of parallel sides} \times \text{height}

Given : area of trapezoid = 96 inches²,

Height is 8 inches

and  one base of the trapezoid is 6 inches longer than the other base.

Let one base be x , then other will be 6 + x

Substitute in formula, we have,

96=\frac{1}{2}\times {(x+6+x)} \times 8

Solving we get,

96=\frac{1}{2}\times {(2x+6)} \times 8

⇒ 96 = (2x+ 6) × 4

Divide both side by 4, we have

⇒ 24 = (2x+6)

Subtract 6 both side, we have

⇒ 18 = 2x

Solve for x, we have,

⇒ x = 9

Thus, one base is 9 inches and other is 15 inches.

In a hearing test, subjects estimate the loudness (in decibels) of a sound, and the results are (mean = 70): 68, 67, 70, 71, 68,
Slav-nsk [51]

Answer:

4.5126 approximately 4.5

Step-by-step explanation:

First of all, we need to identify the type of data that we are receiving, in this case we got a finite amount of data, a discrete set of data, 11 of them to be precise, so the first parameter: the size of the sample (N) is equal to 11.

So, for this problem we goin' to use the formula for standard deviation for discrete variables that it's given by: see the attached image

where σ correspond to the standard deviation, μ correspond to the mean (in this case μ = 70 decibels) , xi correspond to each of the data values and i correspond to a counter beginning in i=1 with x1 = 68 and ending in i=N=11 (the size of the sample) with x11=68.

Finally we operate using the formula and we obtain that the standard deviation of this sample is equal to 4.5126
