Sumerian writing was called Sumerian cuneiform which is the earliest known writing system.it originates back in 8,000BC  and was developed from the pictographs and symbols which were used to represent livestock and trade goods on clay tablets. Sumerians made small tokens out of clay which was kept together in sealed clay envelopes and when needed to show what was inside the envelopes they pressed the token into the clay in the outside.
