D. During the French Revolution, the third estate was anyone who was basically not a part of the aristocracy or the clergy. In this case, the general populace wanted social and political reform that better benefited them instead of only benefiting those in higher positions of society.
The preamble is pretty much the statement of why the constitution was created. It states it's purpose.
