Megan is flying a kite that is 60 yards above the ground. The length of the kite string is 100 yards. What is the distance from

The length of the string of the kite = 100 yards.

To find the distance from Megan to the point on the ground directly below the kite.

Formula

By Pythagoras theorem for a right angle triangle we get,

h^{2} =l^{2} +b^{2} where, h be the hypotenuse, b be the base, l be the another side along right angle.

Now,

Here, putting l = 60 and h = 100 we get,

100^{2} = b^{2} +60^{2}

   b^{2} = 100^{2} -60^{2}

   b^2 = 10000-3600

    b = \pm \sqrt{6400}

    b = \pm 80

Here we will take b = 80 because the length cannot be measured in negative.

Hence, the distance from Megan to the point on the ground directly below the kite is 80 yard. ​

Thus, Option D is the correct answer.
