How to factor out tue coefficient of the variable

Mathematics

Lets say you have a question such as 7x+1=15.

First you have to start with the addition or subtraction because of PEMDAS. In order to get rid of the +1, you have to subtract 1 from it and do the same thing to the number on the other side of the equal sign.
7x+1-1=15-1
Which leaves you with
7x=14
What you want to do is get the variable by itself so, since the variable is basically multiplying itself by the coefficient, you want to divide the 7x by 7 to get rid of the coefficient. Make sure to do the same for both sides of the equation!
7x/7=14/7

x=2

Thats the answer.
Hopefully you can figure this out on your own problem.

How many lawns can you move with one gallon of gasoline if you maintain the rate of 1/2 gallon of gasoline per 1/4 lawn mowed
andreyandreev [35.5K]

Answer:

You can mow 1/2 a lawn with a gallon of gasoline.

Step-by-step explanation:

Start by setting the amounts equal to each other.   .5*.25.

The .5 should become a 1, so multiply it to become the answer of 1. What you do on one side should be repeated on the other side also. So then multiply .25 by 2 to get .5

A plane is on its approach to land on the runway. The jet’s height above the ground is given in feet as a function of the time i
sleet_krkn [62]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

This is a linear function because for every 5 seconds that pass, the height of the plane drops 500 feet, or -500 to be exact. So that's the slope of the line. If we look at the table we can determine where the graph goes through the h axis. The h axis is the y axis, and the t axis is the x axis. So where the graph goes through the h axis is also the y-intercept. If your teacher is any good at all, he/she would make sure that you understand beyond a shadow of a doubt that the y-intercept exists where x = 0. Looking at the table, where x (t) is 0, y (h) is 4000 feet.

Writing the linear equation then is super easy. In the form y = mx + b, we already know both the slope (-100) and the y-intercept (4000), so we fill in accordingly:

h = -100t + 4000 which appears to be choice a.
