How to factor out tue coefficient of the variable

Mathematics

Lets say you have a question such as 7x+1=15.

First you have to start with the addition or subtraction because of PEMDAS. In order to get rid of the +1, you have to subtract 1 from it and do the same thing to the number on the other side of the equal sign.
7x+1-1=15-1
Which leaves you with
7x=14
What you want to do is get the variable by itself so, since the variable is basically multiplying itself by the coefficient, you want to divide the 7x by 7 to get rid of the coefficient. Make sure to do the same for both sides of the equation!
7x/7=14/7

x=2

Thats the answer.
Hopefully you can figure this out on your own problem.

Pete has 3 dollars less than what Linda has. If together has 81 dollars how much does each person have?
Makovka662 [10]

Answer:

Pete: 39, Linda: 42

Step-by-step explanation:

Suppose Pete has x dollars. If he has 3 dollars less than Linda, then Linda has 3+x dollars. Together, they have 81 dollars:

x+3+x=81

2x+3=81

2x=78

x=39

Since Pete has x dollars, and x=39, he has $39.

Linda has 3+x, which is 39+3 = $42

<em>I hope this helps! :)</em>

is (-1/2 x + 6/7) - (7/2 x - 4/7) equivalent to -4 x + 2/7 ? use the properties of operations to justify your answer
LuckyWell [14K]

Answer:

The given equation is NOT justified.

Step-by-step explanation:

Here, the given equation is (\frac{-1}{2}x + \frac{6}{7} )  -  (\frac{7}{2}x - \frac{4}{7} )   = -4x + \frac{2}{7}

Now, here Consider the left hand side and simplifying the left side by operating on the like terms,

⇒(\frac{-1}{2}x + \frac{6}{7} )  -  (\frac{7}{2}x - \frac{4}{7} )   = \frac{-1}{2}x + \frac{6}{7}   -  \frac{7}{2}x + \frac{4}{7}  =  (\frac{-1}{2}x -\frac{7}{2}x) + (\frac{6}{7}   + \frac{4}{7})

=(\frac{-1 - 7}{2}x ) + (\frac{6 + 4}{7} ) = \frac{-8x}{2} + \frac{10}{7}   \neq -4x + \frac{2}{7}

Here, Left side of equation  ≠ Right side of the equation

Hence, (\frac{-1}{2}x + \frac{6}{7} )  -  (\frac{7}{2}x - \frac{4}{7} )   ≠ -4x + \frac{2}{7}

Which graphs do not show a constant rate of change? Check all that apply.
lisov135 [29]

Answer:

a horizontal line is graphed

Step-by-step explanation:

It does not change it will always stay at the same y but just different x.
The rate of change/slope is the change in y divided by a corresponding change in x.
