How to factor out tue coefficient of the variable

Mathematics

Lets say you have a question such as 7x+1=15.

First you have to start with the addition or subtraction because of PEMDAS. In order to get rid of the +1, you have to subtract 1 from it and do the same thing to the number on the other side of the equal sign.
7x+1-1=15-1
Which leaves you with
7x=14
What you want to do is get the variable by itself so, since the variable is basically multiplying itself by the coefficient, you want to divide the 7x by 7 to get rid of the coefficient. Make sure to do the same for both sides of the equation!
7x/7=14/7

x=2

Thats the answer.
Hopefully you can figure this out on your own problem.

A swimming pool is to be drained. The pool is shaped like a rectangular prism with length 30 feet, wide 18 ft, and depth 4ft. Su
Gala2k [10]

Answer: it will take 9 hours to empty the pool.

Step-by-step explanation:

The pool is shaped like a rectangular prism with length 30 feet, wide 18 ft, and depth 4ft. It means that when the pool is full, its volume is

30 × 18 × 4 = 2160 ft³

If water is pumped out of the pool at a rate of 216ft3 per hour, then the rate at which the water in the pool is decreasing is in arithmetic progression. The formula for determining the nth term of an arithmetic sequence is expressed as

Tn = a + d(n - 1)

Where

a represents the first term of the sequence(initial amount of water in the pool when completely full).

d represents the common difference(rate at which it is being pumped out)

n represents the number of terms(hours) in the sequence.

From the information given,

a = 2160 degrees

d = - 216 ft3

Tn = 0(the final volume would be zero)

We want to determine the number of terms(hours) for which Tn would be zero. Therefore,

0 = 2160 - 216 (n - 1)

2160 = 216(n - 1) = 216n + 216

216n = 2160 - 216

216n = 1944

n = 1944/216

n = 9

Sam Is 11 years older than Susan the sum of their ages in years is 27 what’s sams age in years
sweet [91]

Answer:

19

Step-by-step explanation:

Let Sam be x

Let Susan be y

x = y+11

x + y = 27

Substitute (x) with (y+11)

(y+11) + y = 27

Solve the equation

2y + 11 = 27

2y = 16

y = 8

Susan's age is 8.

Sam's age is 8 + 11

Sam's age is 19

Hope this helped :)
