I’m not completely sure on this one because I never learned this but I think x = 10. This is because 40 and 8 has a connection. You just multiply by 5.

8 x 5 = 40

2 x 5 = 10

So, that means x is equal to 10.

x = 10

Hope this helps, have a great day, stay safe and positive.

Maria is in the state park riding her bike on the new bike trail. She starts at the beginning of the trail and rides for 4 miles
Agata [3.3K]

Answer:

20 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

If Maria has been riding for 2 1/2 hours and Aiden only for 2. That means that the first 4 miles she rode alone was for 1/2 hour. So that is the rate.

1/2 hour for every 4 miles

Maria rode for 2 1/2 hours divided by 1/2 hours is 5. So 5 x 4mi = 20 miles

Given the directrix of y = 6 and focus of (0, 4), which is the equation of the parabola?
krok68 [10]

y = \frac{1}{24} x^{2}

<u>Step-by-step explanation:</u>

Since directrix is a horizontal line, this is a regular vertical parabola, where the x part is squared.  The equation of a vertical parabola is:

(x - h)² = 4p(y - k)

where,

(h,k) are the coordinates of the vertex

p = distance from the vertex to the focus

So, we need to find out h, k and p and plug those values :

We know that the vertex of a parabola is halfway between focus and the directrix . We know the focus (0,4) and directrix y = 6  therefore, vertex (h,k) = (0, 0)

Now, p = distance from the vertex to the focus

= distance from the (0,0) to the (0,4)

= 4

Plug all the values in equation:

(x-0)^{2} = 4(4)(y-0)\\x^{2} = 24y

Now, we rearrange to write this into standard form (y =ax^{2}+bx+c)

or,y = \frac{1}{24} x^{2}
