Answer:

The cost of the dryer is 450

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :  A washer and a dryer cost 821 combined.

             The washer costs 79 less than the dryer.

To Find : The cost of dryer

Solution :

Let the cost of washer be x.

Let the cost of dryer be y.

Since we are given that their combined cost is 821 .

⇒ x+y = 821  ----(A)

We are also given that the washer costs 79 less than the dryer.

⇒x = y - 79  ----(B)

Solving A and B using substitution method .

Put value of x from (B) in (A)

⇒y -79 + y = 821

⇒2y -79 = 821

⇒2y = 821+79

⇒2y = 900

⇒y = 450

Thus , The cost of dryer 'y' is 450 .

Now putting this value in (B)

⇒x = 450-79

⇒x = 371

Thus , The cost of washer 'x' is 371 .

Hence The cost of dryer is 450

Let x be the cost of dryer, y be the cost of washer

x + y =821
x-79 = y

combine 2 equation
we got
x + (x-79) = 821
2x + 79 = 821
2x = 742
x=471

The cost of dryer is $471

Consider the following pair of equations:
V125BC [204]
The pair of equations:
y = x + 4
y = -2x - 2

To solve the system of equation by substitution, you would substitute one variable for it's equivalent expression. Combining the pair of equations into one equation in only one variable. The easiest way to do this is by substituting out the variable y because it is already alone on one side of the equal sign. Substitute the y in the second equation for: x+4

x+4 = -2x - 2
solve for x
x + 2x = -2 -4
3x = -6
x = -2

now use the value for x to find y by putting into either equation.

y = x + 4
y = (-2) + 4
y = 2

solution is: (-2, 2)

if a snowball rolls down a hill and its surface area increaces at a rate of 18cm^2/min, find the rate at which the radius increa
sp2606 [1]

Answer: dr/dt = 9/(24pi)  cm per minute

9/(24pi) is approximately equal to 0.119366

=============================================

Work Shown:

Given info

dS/dt = 18 cm^2/min is the rate of change of the surface area

r = 6 cm is the radius, from the fact that the diameter is 12 cm

--------

Use the surface area equation given, apply the derivative, plug in the given values and then isolate dr/dt which represents the rate of change for the radius

S = 4*pi*r^2

dS/dt = 2*4*pi*r*dr/dt

dS/dt = 8*pi*r*dr/dt

18 = 8*pi*6*dr/dt

18 = 48*pi*dr/dt

48pi*dr/dt = 18

dr/dt = 18/(48pi)

dr/dt = (9*2)/(24*2pi)

dr/dt = 9/(24pi)

The units are cm per minute, which can be written as cm/min.
