Millions of people moved during the Industrial Revolution. Some simply moved from a village to a town in the hope of finding work whilst others moved from one country to another in search of a better way of life. Some had no choice, transportation was a punishment for some crimes.
To promote assimilation, American Indian children were given free education and were inducted into federally funded boarding schools across the country.
Policy makers at the time hoped that the early immersion of native born children would help them become "proper" and productive citizens. One of the first boarding schools was the Carlisle Indian School, established in 1879 on Pennsylvania
The founder, Henry Pratt, believed that education was key in order to "kill the Indian and save the man." The theory of the boarding school became known as "assimilation through education."
The United Nations decided that they needed to have a peace-keeping force, a middle man, and treaties, so that they could try to stop wars from happening.

Well the use of trenches prolonged WWI because it was another kind of land warfare where most of the ground in which they were fighting consisted mostly trenches. These trenches protected them from most artillery and normal gun fire. So it was almost like a stalemate.
