A Rayleigh wave is a seismic surface wave causing the ground to shake in an elliptical motion(they move in a surafce rolling manner). A seismic wave means a earthquake wave, so Rayleigh wave is realted to the motion of earth and its crust. Rayleigh waves are formed when the particle vibrate with the combination of both transverse and longitudinal waves.
