The functions of the red and yellow bone are as under:

  • Red bone marrow are a large portion of the red and white platelets and platelets themselves are created in the red bone marrow.  
  • Hemopoetic division of stem cells happens.  the red color of the Hemoglobin imparts its color to the bone marrow as a result of which it appears red.
  • Yellow bone marrow produces ligament and bone. The yellow color of this bone marrow is due to the presence of a fat containing acrotoid pigment in it.
