7.The United States is said to have a mixed economy because privately owned businesses and government both play important roles. Indeed, some of the most enduring debates of American economic history focus on the relative roles of the public and private sectors.

8.In a free enterprise economic system, government plays a small role in the economy. It does not make decisions on things like what goods and services will be produced or how they will be produced. These decisions are made by individuals in private firms. Under socialism, government may make those decisions.
