English

Repetition of the initial (first) sounds or letters of words close together in the poem.

Explanation:

Repetition of initial consonant sounds usually in the beginning of the word in a two or more neighboring words or syllables. Alliteration is the Latin word which is derived from the Latin word 'Latira'. It means a a letter or alphabet.

Example: Bitty makes the bitter butter better. In this sentence (b) sound occurs constantly forming an  alliteration. It must be understood that alliteration does not depend upon letters but on sounds. 'Christy got a cigarette chase', in this sentence the letter(c) is having different sounds and hence it is not an example of alliteration.

Which feature most helps indicate to the reader that this modern translation was originally an old English poem ?
avanturin [10]

Answer:

The feature that most helps indicate to the reader that this modern translation was originally an Old English poem is alliteration

Explanation:

The question is not complete since it does not provide the reference text, here is the text:

Read the passage from "A Shield."

A lonely warrior,I am wounded with iron,

Scarred with sword-points,sated with battle-play,

Weary of weapons.I have witnessed much fighting,

Much stubborn strife.

First of all, we need to take in consideration that alliteration is the principal literary device Old English poetry to bind the words, this lines have several examples of this technique such as "wounded with" or "stubborn strife", the other options are not as representative of old English poetry as this literary device.
