If you <em>deposit</em> $35, you can imagine drawing a green line (representing the money gained) to the 35 on the number line, which can be seen as <em>moving </em>35 to the right<em />. Fo <em>w</em><em>ithdrawing, </em>imagine drawing a red line back 50 notches on the number line (representing money lost). The net effect that the deposit and withdrawal will have on your account balance is a 35-50=-15 dollar <em>loss</em>, which can be represented on the number line as a line drawn to the point -15.

A woman spent two thirds of her money she lost two thirds the remainder and then had $4 left how much money did she start with
Lisa [10]

Answer

Find out  how much money did she start with.

To proof

let us assume that the money she had be x.

As given

woman spent two thirds of her money

Money\ spent = \frac{2x}{3}

Money she had after spent two thirds of her money  = Total money - money spent

= x - \frac{2x}{3}

= \frac{1x}{3}

As given she lost two thirds the remainder

=\frac{2}{3}\times ( money\ she\ had\ after\ spending\ two\ thirds\ of\ her\ money)

= \frac{2}{3} \times\frac{1x}{3}

we get

=\frac{2x}{9}

Money she had after lost two thirds the remainder = Money she had after spent two thirds of her money - she lost two thirds the remainder

= \frac{1x}{3} - \frac{2x}{9}

= \frac{1x}{9}

As given

she had $4 left

thus

\frac{1x}{9} = 4

x = $36

she start with $36.

Hence proved

1. If you bought a book for $12 and a CD for $9 how much money would you get back if you gave the clerk $40?
Alex

I would get $19 back if I gave the clerk $40

An equation is an expression used to show the relationship between two or more variables and numbers.

Total money spent on book and CD = $12 + $9 = $21

The money gotten back = $40 - $21 = $19

I would get $19 back if I gave the clerk $40
