It costs $36 for 12 gallons of gas. Mark is trying to determine how much it will cost to fill his 16-gallon tank. He divides 12

by 36 to find the unit rate and determines that it costs $0.33 per gallon. Then, he multiples $0.33 by 16 gallons to determine that the total cost to fill the tank is $5.33. What error did Mark make in calculating the cost to fill his car?

He divided 12 by 36 when he should have divided 36 by 12 which would give him the answer $3 per gallon.

It would cost him $48 to fill his 16-gallon tank.

What is the equation of the line passing through the points (2, –1) and (5, –10) in slope-intercept form?
adoni [48]
(2,-1)(5,-10)
slope = (-10 - (-1) / (5 - 2) = -9/3 = -3

y = mx + b
slope(m) = -3
use either of ur points....(2,-1)...x = 2 and y = -1
now we sub and find b, the y int
-1 = -3(2) + b
-1 = -6 + b
-1 + 6 = b
5 = b

so ur equation is : y = -3x + 5 <==

How would I solve this, converting the left side to a square root? -16 = r^3
ZanzabumX [31]

-16=r^3\implies \sqrt[3]{-16}=\sqrt[3]{r^3}\implies \sqrt[3]{-16}=r\implies \sqrt[3]{-2^4}=r \\\\\\ \sqrt[3]{(-2)^3\cdot 2^1}=r\implies -2\sqrt[3]{2^1}=r\implies -2\sqrt[3]{2}=r

A motel finds it can rent 180 rooms when the room rate is $ 60 per day. For each $ 2 increase in the rate, two fewer rooms are r
Xelga [282]

Answer:

$7,200

Step-by-step explanation:

r=p × n

where

r=revenue

p = price per item

n = number of items sold

A change in price changes quantity ( number sold)

Variable x changes with price, then

Let

p+x=a dollar price increase

p-x= a dollar price decrease

n+x= an increase in quantity sold

n-x= a decrease in quantity sold

Therefore,

A $2 dollar increase in price=p+2x

2 decrease in room quantity sold= n-2x

Substituting in the above equation

r=(p+2x)*(n-2x)

P=$60

n=180

Then

r=(60+2x)*(180-2x)

r=10,800-120x+360x-4x^2

r=-4x^2-240x+10,800

Solve the quadratic equation

The maximum value of x in the vertex = - b/2*a

Where

b=240

a=-4

Value of x=-240/2*(-4)

X=30

r=-4x^2-240x+10,800

=-4(30)^2-240(30)+10,800

=-4(900)-7200+10,800

=3,600-7200+10800

=$7,200

The rate that maximises revenue=$7,200
