In active cells, pO_2 may be 10 torr at the cell surface and 1 torr at the mitochondria (the organelles where oxidative metaboli

sm occurs).
A) How does myoglobin (p_50 = 2.8 torr, where p_50 is the partial pressure of oxygen required to 50% saturate myoglobin) facilitate the diffusion of O_2 through these cells? (Myoglobin does not just pick up the O_2 at the cell membrane and carry it over to the mitochondrial membrane.)
B) Active muscles consume O_2 much faster than do other tissues. Would myoglobin also be an effective O_2 - transport protein in other tissues? Explain.

Answer:

a. Oxygen binds to it when it attains a partial saturation of 0.5

b. Yes.

Explanation:

Myoglobin -  is a small globular protein, containing a heme group, that carries oxygen to muscles.

In this case we see how a specialized oxygen storage

protein, myoglobin, is used to store the oxygen and to facilitate its

diffusion within cells.

a) For oxygen binding in this proteins the KD or the “p50” – the amount of oxygen required to give

a fractional saturation of Y=0.5. In the case of myoglobin, the KD is 2-3 torr. In the case above we have a KD of 2.8 which is sufficient for the fractional saturation binding to be activated.

The fractional saturation seems to be sufficient for a noncooperative binding of O2 to carry oxygen from the capillaries to sites of usage like the mitochondria.

It binds 1 molecule of oxygen molecule per molecule of protein.

b. Myoglobin is an intracellular protein propagated in such a way that it is found in skeletal and cardiac muscle cells and is associated to the transport of oxygen from the cytoplasm to the mitochondria where oxygen is used. It is hence a reliable oxygen depot and transporter.

O avoid compromising your car's aerodynamic properties, you should avoid ________.
Len [333]

Answer:

to carry heavy load on the vehicle's outside

Explanation:

Aerodyanmic properties of a car refer to its interactions with moving air and the properties which govern smooth movement of the car through air. Aerodynamics of a car address the concerns like lowering noise emission, prevention of heavy load and avoiding the luggage dragging.

Now when there will be great load outside the car,the air will resist the movement of car more, so it will be difficult for the car to cut through the air. Moreover, when a car carries huge amount of load outside its body, the frictional force by aerodynamic drag increases greatly. This can badly effect the performance of high speed cars like sports cars but for other normal cars it poses less hazards.

Hope it helps!

All the major biological explanations related to drug abuse assume that these substances exert their __________ effects by alter
Serga [27]

Answer:

Psychoactive

Explanation:

Psychoactive effects of drugs are capable of changing the mood, awareness and thoughts of the users/consumers.

Psychoactivity of drugs gives rise to change in the information exchanges between the cells of the brain. They are also able to copy the effects and behavior of neurotransmitters. This gives rise to continued dependence and addiction of such drugs.

Example of psychoactive drugs include cocaine, cannabis, alcohol etc

Describe the structure and function of the male and female reproductive parts of a flower
LekaFEV [45]
The Female parts consists of one ovary. The ovary contains ovules which are the "small egg" part of the plant which contains the female reproductive cells. Then from the ovary, extends a tube like structure called the "style" and on the top of it is a surface receptive to pollen called the stigma which can take many forms. As for the males they have the filament which transfers the cells unto stamen and anthers to transfer into the female parts
