Had they not built up the courage to stand up for themselves, America would not be the place it is today. The colonists did what they needed to do in order for themselves and the future people to have the lives we have. Think about how you would you react if our government decided to place unfair taxes and laws on us without following the laws they had put in place to ensure laws and taxes were fair.

One specific act that was unfair to the colonists was the quartering act. The quartering act forced colonists to allow British soldiers to live in their homes. This meant that the soldiers also ate the colonists food, took up one of their rooms, and got all this with no charge. This act was only one of the ways Britain angered the colonists and pushed them towards rebellion.

Some people might argue that the colonists should have respected their government. Though respect is a highly important part of any relationship, which the colonies had with the British government, it has to go both ways. How were the colonists going to be respectful towards Britain if Britain isn't going to be respectful in return? One time when this relationship was proven disrespectful on Britain's side was when the colonists protested "No taxation without representation". The British government pretended to honor this until they decided to place another taxing act on the colonists. Britain didn't even trust the colonies to govern them selves and as a result the colonies didn't trust the king or Britain at all.The colonist started out their settlement with respect for their country but that was lost due to many mistakes made by both parties.
