By giving the setting at the beginning of a story, it gives the reader an idea of what the plot will look like. If the setting of a story is in a haunted mansion on Halloween night, the reader has an idea that the plot will probably involve ghosts, chasing, capture, etc. Basically any Scooby-Doo movie ever. All in all, the setting gives the reader an idea of how the plot will lay out.
So what needs to be answered then, If he likes both equally?
A sentence fragment is a incomplete sentence like, one that doesn't fully explain its self. fragment = came to the house, complete = Lilly came to the house to visit.
A shift in thought can be indicated by what is called an em dash. An em dash is used to set of an interruption that is closely relevant to
the sentence but is not grammatically part of it. These set of
interruptions can be found in a list, illustration, restatement, shift
in thought or tone, summary, or dramatic point.
