Work in BSL-4 containment laboratory requires time and great attention. The same work that is done in a BSL-2 laboratory will take significantly longer in a BSL-4 setting. This increased time requirement is due to a lot of factors that are aimed at protecting the worker from laboratory-acquired infections. The BSL 4 laboratory should contain a Class III biological safety cabinet but may use a Class I or II BSC in combination with a positive-pressure, air-supplied full-body suit. Usually, BSL 4 laboratories are in separate buildings. Exhaust streams are filtered through high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters, depending on the agents used.

The correct sequence for aerobic metabolic breakdown of glucose is
Luba_88 [7]

Answer:

a. glycolysis—preparatory reaction--cirtric acid cycle--electron transport system

Explanation:

  • Glycolysis is the first stage of cellular respiration that occurs in the cytoplasm of the cell. During glycolysis one 6 carbon glucose is converted into two molecules of 3 carbon pyruvic acid or pyruvate.
  • In the preparatory reaction, the pyruvate converted into a two-carbon molecule called acetyl CoA. In this reaction, a carbon dioxide molecule is released and a molecule of NADH is released.
  • The citric acid cycle begins with the reaction of the acetyl CoA with a four-carbon molecule in the mitochondrisl matrix. It goes through a cycle of reactions regenerating the four-carbon starting molecule. ATP, NADH and FADH₂ are produced.
  • The electron transport system is the terminal step of aerobic respiration that operates on the inner membrane of the mitochondria. Reduced coenzymes NADH and FADH₂ move along electron transport system release high-energy electrons and produce ATP.

A species whose presence is critical to maintaining the ecological balance is called a/an _____ species.
kow [346]

Answer:

keystone species

Explanation:

Keystone species are indispensable species that are essential to the maintaining of the balance of an ecosystem, and also play a major role in the way species in the ecosystem interrelate. The absence or removal of a keystone species from a habitat or ecosystem would lead to the disruption and imbalance of the ecosystem, and as such lead to the extinction of other species.

An example of a keystone species is the bee. Bees are very important in pollination of flowering plants and also ensure their survival. This plants serve as home to various insects that are source of food to birds. The removal of bees from this ecosystem would affect the ecological balance of this ecosystem.
