One of the important elements of drama is dialogue, the words spoken by the characters. Choose one of the characters from Act I

of "The Phantom Tollbooth". Write a paragraph in which you describe three things about the character that are revealed by the sorts of things he says and how he says them. Support your ideas with examples from the drama.

As you read the passage, which character speaks in a way you understand and can describe? Remember, description is done in adjectives. Does his dialogue make him a strong person? Mean? Is he a noble man? Or is the character a woman? Is she weak? What does she say that shows she is a weak character? (That is where you will use evidence from the text to support your claim of the character’s description.)

Read the excerpt from part one of Trifles. COUNTY ATTORNEY. How did she seem to feel about you coming? HALE. Why, I don’t think
mario62 [17]

Answer:

It suggests that she did not care about his death.

Explanation:

Mrs. Wright, a character in the play Trifles, kills her husband because of her loneliness. The police and her neighbors come to her house to investigate. Mrs. Hale, when asked about how Mrs. Wright behaved, says that she laughed after killing her husband.

It would seem based on this that Mrs. Wright didn't feel anything bad about her husband's death. She experienced severe loneliness and depression in her small-town, rural life, that she didn't see another escape other than murdering her own husband. Even though the husband did not treat her badly, per se, she still felt the need to get rid of him and regain her freedom.
