2. Sandy made a reflective sticker for her bicycle in the shape of a triangle. Two of the three side lengths were 3 cm and 4 cm.

(a) Could the third side of the reflective sticker be 6 cm long? Explain your reasoning. If this third side is possible, draw the triangle. (b) Could the third side of the reflective sticker be 1 cm long? Explain your reasoning. If this third side is possible, draw the triangle.

Answer:

(a) Triangle is possible

(b) Triangle is not possible

Step-by-step explanation:

Sandy made a reflective sticker for her in the shape of a triangle.

(a).Two of the three sides of the triangle are 3 cm and 4 cm.

we have to find whether triangle is possible or not if third side is 6 cm long.

By inequality theorem of the triangle

Sum of two sides of the triangle should be greater than the measure of third side.

So 3 + 4 = 7 > 6

4 + 6 = 10 > 3

6 + 3 = 9 > 4

Therefore, triangle is possible.

(b) If the third side of the triangle is 1 cm long then

3 + 1 = 4 (Third side should be greater than sum of rest two sides)

1 + 4 = 5 > 3

4 + 3 = 7 > 1

Therefore, triangle is not possible.

(a) The third side could be 6 cm long because the rule for this triangle is that the third side must be greater than 1 and less than 7. (4 - 3 = 1; 4 + 3 = 7) Then you can draw the triangle with Side 1 = 3 cm; Side 2 = 4 cm; Side 3 = 6 cm.

(b) The third side could not be 1 cm long because the rule for this triangle is that the third side must be greater than 1 and less than 7. (4 - 3 = 1; 4 + 3 = 7) This means that you cannot draw the triangle.

Solve each system of equation by substitution y=-x+5 x+2y=2
Likurg_2 [28]

Answer:

x = 8

y = -3

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

y = -x + 5 ...................... equation 1

x + 2y = 2 ........................ equation 2

solving the system of linear equation by substitution method , substitute equation 1 into equation 2 , that is

x + 2(-x+5) = 2

x - 2x + 10 = 2

-x + 10 = 2

collect the like terms

10 - 2 = x

therefore :

x = 8

substitute x = 8 into equation 1 to find the value of y , that is

y = -8 + 5

y = -3

Therefore :

x = 8

y = -3

Christine Wong has asked Dave and Mike to help her move into a new apartment on Sunday morning. She has asked them both in case
olga nikolaevna [1]

Answer:

(a) The probability that both Dave and Mike will show up is 0.25.

(b) The probability that at least one of them will show up is 0.75.

(c) The probability that neither Dave nor Mike will show up is 0.25.

Step-by-step explanation:

Denote the events as follows:

<em>D</em> = Dave will show up.

<em>M</em> =  Mike will show up.

Given:

P(D^{c})=0.55\\P(M^{c})=0.45

It is provided that the events of Dave of Mike showing up are independent of each other.

(a)

Compute the probability that both Dave and Mike will show up as follows:

P(D\cap M)=P(D)\times P (M)\\=[1-P(D^{c})]\times [1-P(M^{c})]\\=[1-0.55]\times[1-0.45]\\=0.2475\\\approx0.25

Thus, the probability that both Dave and Mike will show up is 0.25.

(b)

Compute the probability that at least one of them will show up as follows:

P (At least one of them will show up) = 1 - P (Neither will show up)

                                                   =1-P(D^{c}\cup M^{c})\\=P(D\cup M)\\=P(D)+P(M)-P(D\cap M)\\=[1-P(D^{c})]+[1-P(M^{c})]-P(D\cap M)\\=[1-0.55]+[1-0.45]-0.25\\=0.75

Thus, the probability that at least one of them will show up is 0.75.

(c)

Compute the probability that neither Dave nor Mike will show up as follows:

P(D^{c}\cup M^{c})=1-P(D\cup M)\\=1-P(D)-P(M)+P(D\cap M)\\=1-[1-P(D^{c})]-[1-P(M^{c})]+P(D\cap M)\\=1-[1-0.55]-[1-0.45]+0.25\\=0.25

Thus, the probability that neither Dave nor Mike will show up is 0.25.
