In the story, Azar Nafisi, author of Reading Lolita in Tehran, describes the seven young women that she had selected for her private literature class. Between them is Sanaz, who got less description than many of the others girls, she was a young woman that was in the middle between her family's expectation and society´s approval.

The author might included these details to retreat how women were treated differently in Iranian, the story focuses on the experience of women before, during, and after the Iranian Revolution, no matter the education, religion, or social status, all women were negatively affected by the laws. Other themes are  society, religion, politics and literature. Also it take into account the theme of women and gender.
