When the British throne was passed to George III things got even more strained between the Colonies and the British government. When the Seven Years War began, it made Britain fall into debt and the solution was to tax even more the colonists - many taxes and trade restrictions, such as the Stamp Act. This made the colonists outraged and brought them closer - In October 1765 representatives of nine colonies met.

The first Continental Congress happened, it protested against George’s III measures. Even though officials from the king tightened control over the colonies.

This grew until a point of no return. The American Revolution began on April 1775 and it led to the Declaration of Independence.

The answer is: The Stamp Act and tariffs on non-english goods

Stamp act force the colony to pay more taxes on paper related products and increasing tariffs on english goods make it very expensive for the colonies to conduct business with other countries. The colonists eventually fed up and decided to work with one another to fight off british influence.
