st $12.50, shoes cost $44.50, his warm-up was $34, and his shorts were $19.95. He paid 5% sales tax on his equipment, clothes, and warm-up. Tom also paid $20.00 per lesson for 12 lessons. He only had to pay for the warm-up one time. Including the cost of round trip travel, what is the total cost?

Racket : 94
balls : 12.50
warm ups : 34
shorts : 19.95
shoes : 44.50
total with tax : 204.95 + .05(204.95) = 204.95 + 10.25 = 215.20

20 per lesson for 12 lessons : 20 * 12 = 240
12 miles 1 way....thats 24 miles round trip, at 0.42 per mile : 24(0.42) =
10.08.....lessons and mileage : 240 + 10.08 = 250.08

for a total of : 215.20 + 250.08 = 465.28 <==

Let f(x) = x^2 + 4x - 31. for what value of a is there exactly one real value of x such that f(x) = a?
allsm [11]
This value of "a" is exactly the y-coordinate of the vertex of the parabola
y = x%5E2+%2B+4x++-+31.

To find it, complete the square:

x%5E2+%2B+4x++-+31 = %28x%2B2%29%5E2+-+4+-+31 = %28x%2B2%29%5E2+-+35.

So, this value of "a" is a = -35.

Figure. Plot y = x%5E2+%2B+4x++-+31.

When graphing the following equations, which one will be a straight line?
11Alexandr11 [23.1K]

The answer is obvious that is option B, however for educational purposes we will graph the different cases

using a graph tool
see the attached figure

case A-------> is a parabola is not a straight line
case B-------> is a straight line
case C-------> there are two straight line
case D-------> is a circle is not a straight line
hence

the answer is the option
B.f(x) = x + 1

Use Newton's method with initial approximation x1 = −2 to find x2, the second approximation to the root of the equation x3 + x +
rjkz [21]

Answer:

The value of x_2=-1.6923.

Step-by-step explanation:

Consider the provided information.

The provided formula is f(x)=x^3+x+6

Substitute x_1=-2 in above equation.

f(x_1)=(-2)^3+(-2)+6

f(x_1)=-8-2+6

f(x_1)=-4

Differentiate the provided function and calculate the value of f'(x_1)

f'(x)=3x^2+1

f'(x)=3(-2)^2+1

f'(x)=13

The Newton iteration formula: x_2=x_1-\frac{f(x_1)}{f'(x_1)}

Substitute the respective values in the above formula.

x_2=-2-\frac{(-4)}{13}

x_2=-2+0.3077

x_2=-1.6923

Hence, the value of x_2=-1.6923.
