Types of war :

Three pure types of war are absolute war, instrumental war, and agonistic fighting. These wars are oriented, respectively, toward annihilation, advantage, and glory.

Absolute war - Absolute war is unrestricted and unregulated war

Instrumental war - Instrumental war may or may not be restricted, according to considerations of expediency.

Agonistic fighting - Agonistic fighting is regulated according to norms

Role of war :

Specifically, it a means that the society of states limits war to keep it within the common rules laid down by the society of states itself. In other words, war holds an ambiguous role from this perspective of being simultaneously the decisive threat to the society of states, and the instrument of protecting it.

Principles of war :

Selection and maintenance of the aim; maintenance of morale; offensive action; surprise; security; concentration of force; economy of effort; flexibility; co-operation; and administration.

Importance of war :

By fighting wars, people have created larger, more organized societies that have reduced the risk that their members will die violently.Indeed, in the Stone Age, you had as much as a 20 percent chance of dying violently at the hands of another human being.
