Autocracy is the type of government where a single person or the party have the supreme power or the absolute power. The decision is taken by the autocrats. Autocrats are not subjected to external legal restraints. They are neither regularized by popular control. The absolute monarchies like Saudi Arabia, UAE, North Korea are a modern form of autocracy. In earlier times, the “autocrat” term was invented as a favourable characteristic of the ruler that has a connection to the concept of absence of conflict of interest.
The Russian Empire was styled as “Autocrat of the Russia”. Absolute monarchy is a type of monarchy where monarch holds the supreme autocratic authority. It is not restricted by any written laws or customs. These are generally known as a hereditary monarchy. The authority is derived or legally bounded by restrictions from the Constitution or the legislature. The popularity of absolute monarchy declined after the French revolution because in modern times theories of popular sovereignty were dominant. Countries which still have monarchs are Oman, Vatican City whereas UAE has a federal monarchy.
