The working people of France were called the proletariat. The proletariat were the people who would work from morning to night in factories and would work for the rich factory owners. Due to this, they were always put in a bad social position in France at the time.

Among this group of people, number of them became militant and radical partisans during the time of French Revolution. The main reason was the poor condition of their life and living.
