Michael received a grant to make a community garden. He makes a scale drawing of his vision for the garden. Michael's drawing sh

ows the layout of 9 raised garden beds of the same size. The scale from his drawing to the actual garden is 2 cm for every 1 ft. What is the actual area of one of the garden beds? (HINT: the formula is A = L x W. How many things do you need to find?)

Step-by-step explanation:

Find the diagram to the question attached.

From the diagram, we are given the following dimension for one of the beds;

Length = 16cm

Width = 8cm

If the scale from his drawing to the actual garden is 2 cm for every 1 ft, then on converting to feet;

2cm = 1ft

16cm = x fr

cross multiply

2x = 16

x = 8ft

Hence 16cm = 8ft (based on the scale)

Similarly:

2cm = 1ft

8cm = x fr

cross multiply

2x = 8

x = 4ft

Area of the garden bed (in feet) = Length * Width

Area of the garden bed = 8ft * 4ft

Area of the garden bed = 32ft²

Hence the actual area of one of the garden beds is 32ft². We need to find 2 things fir us to get the required answer. First is the length of the bed in feet and the second is the width of the bed in feet.
