Answer:

The modern concept of Europe as a collection of independent states emerged.

Explanation:

What began as a conflict between Christians and Protestants, ended with the modern concept of the European state. The Thirty Year's War involved several countries and had as a catalyst the religious disputes arising from the 16th century Protestant reforms. Plus, there was a dispute for power and political hegemony that dive Europe into a long and complicated conflict. However, the results were positive, with the recognition of Europe as a group of independent states, and the beginning of our modern concept of Nation.

In what ways did Mikhail Gorbachev change the Soviet Union? Select all that apply.
wolverine [178]

Select these as the answers that apply:

... He began to end strict censorship of ideas.

... He started to support reforms that weren't related to the communist system.

... He began to pursue trade and arm agreements with the West.

Mikhail Gorbachev began his new strategies in the Soviet Union in 1985. He proposed perestroika (restructuring) and glasnost (openness). These seemed like policies that leaned in the direction of Western ways of economics and politics, rather than being related to the traditional communist system. Perestroika meant allowing some measure of private enterprise in the Soviet Union. Glasnost meant allowing a bit of freedom in regard to speech and publication. Gorbachev also developed a relationship with US president Ronald Reagan and worked on arms agreements with the West, as well as pursuing trade opportunities.
