There were 11 birds at the shelter on Wednesday.

Step-by-step explanation:

Cost of care for one bird = $4.00

Cost of care for one cat = $8.00

Total spent = $148.00

Total birds = 24

Let,

Number of birds = x

Number of cats = y

According to given statement;

x+y=24    Eqn 1

4x+8y=148    Eqn 2

Multiplying Eqn 1 by 4

4(x+y=24)\\4x+4y=96\ \ \ Eqn\ 3

Subtracting Eqn 3 from Eqn 2;

(4x+8y)-(4x+4y)=148-96\\4x+8y-4x-4y=52\\4y=52

Dividing both sides by 4

\frac{4y}{4}=\frac{52}{4}\\y=13

Putting y=13 in Eqn 1

x+13=24\\x=24-13\\x=11

There were 11 birds at the shelter on Wednesday.

What is 1/4 in the exponent of 3?
zimovet [89]

Answer:

1/4 to the 3rd power is 0.015625

Step-by-step explanation:

Im assuming that is what your asking, you worded it a little differently. When you figure out what the value of something is based on the power it is raised to, you multiply that number by itself the amount of the exponent.

1/4 x 1/4 x 1/4 =  0.015625

What is the value of this expression when a = 2 and b = -3 ? a^3 - b^3 / 5
saveliy_v [14]

Answer:

13 2/5

Step-by-step explanation:

a = 2 and b = -3

so the question asks whats.... a^3 - b^3/5

First we plug in the values of a and b

(2)^3 - (-3)^3 /5

Now we solve the ones in paranthesis first

(2)^3 = 8 because 2×2×2 and

-(-3)^3 forget about the - outside the parenthesis so

(-3)^3 = (-27) because (-3)×(-3)×(-3)

now we put it back together

8 -(-27)/5

the two minus become plus so

8 + 27/5

Now we solve it like fractions

8 and 27/5

simplify

13 and 2/5

Hope that helps!
