What does the term ”habeas corpus” mean?

Social Studies

It means something like 'produce the body'

basically it means that you can't keep the person in prison if they are summoned to court

if they are summoned to court, you have to get the person to court. you can't say "oh, the prisoner is in prison so they can't go to court"

one reason habeas corpus might exist is say you got imprisoned by somebody who doesn't like you
if the habeas corpus didn't exist and the court said "hey, let's put this person on trial" then the prison commander (or whatever) could refuse and keep you in prison. forever.

so that's what habeas corpus means
it means 'produce the body'

Assume The Government Is Running A Budget Deficit. Should The Government Raise Taxes To Balance The Budget? Should The Governmen
Amanda [17]
I personally think that both would be a good idea. It also depends on how bad the budget deficit is. if the government would raise taxes by like 1% it wouldn't be to bad. they could also not give as many funds to things that arn't important like maybe a science investigation that isn't very useful. but if they would decrease spendings on, for exaple medicare that would effect people in a not so good way. but if they raised taxes too much it could also effect people badly. hope this helped

Gre4nikov [31]

The reason why the media is sometimes referred to as the fourth branch of government is because the media can influence the decisions of the government and the public.

The media in every society can be very influential, they release information which can positively or negatively impact the actions of the governing body or even the general public.

By referring the media as the fourth branch of government, they check or monitor the various actions of the political leaders and this can influence how the general public view their government. The media is powerful and can positively or negatively influence the public.
