The Puritans came to America to explore, make money, and to spread and practice their religion freely. The Puritans preached that it was wrong to practice any other religion other than Puritanism. Though they were seeking religious freedom for themselves, they did not understand the idea of toleration.

What did the passage of the Eighteenth Amendment and the Volstead Act bring about?
fiasKO [112]
These brought about the time known as Prohibition. Liquor was illegal. A subculture would grow out it. The rise of speakeasies, moonshiners, rum runners, and the mob. The time of the gangster would evolve as they would use the illegal businesses to funnel cash and make themselves rich. Men like Babyface, Al Capone, and John Dillenger would rise to both fame and infamy.

What is Gerald promising to do when he becomes a monk?
Lemur [1.5K]
"<span>I hereby renounce my parents, my brothers and relatives, my friends, my possessions . . . and the vain and empty glory and pleasure of this world. I also renounce my own will, for the will of God. I accept all the hardships of the monastic life, and take the vows of purity, chastity, and poverty, in the hope of heaven; and I promise to remain a monk in this monastery all the days of my life." Found this on the internet from .com so do not report me I gave credit.</span>
